For me, it really depends. Favorite Overall Console? PS2. Favorite Platform Overall? PC.

PC >>>> PS2 >> PS4 > PS3 > SNES > PS1 >> Vita > NES > Commodore 64 > WiiU > Atari 2600 > PSP >> Gameboy

Mostly ordered by how much I like the game libraries of each system and lightly influenced by how much time I actually spend (or spent) with each.

My favorite platforms and reasons.

  1. PS3 ]>
I was among the smart ones and held out until Sony fixed the overheating issue. Wasn't that impressed with removal of backwards compatibility, but at least the redesigned console wasn't having a major system malfunctions and eating up enough money in service plan fees to buy two more consoles. At this point I also needed a console with a much bigger hard drive for my RPGs and their expansions. Was also needing a cheap replacement for internet use until a better reliable option came along for that. I was done waiting on Microsoft's empty promises to properly fix their console and needed something that would work. The 250 GB slim had it and even gave me upgraded options for proper HD entertainment, in the form of Blu-ray.

  2. Xbox 360 ]>
It had backwards compatibility and upgraded versions of the games I wanted to play, including sequels to titles I absolutely loved on the Xbox. PS3 Fat also had backwards compatibility, but was otherwise fast becoming a overpriced hot mess. I didn't need that in my online gaming life and I stuck with what worked so well for me the last console generation. Its just unfortunate the system problems on the PS3 Fat would soon come to my console and ruin for me personally everything that made the original Xbox so great.

  3. Xbox ]>
At this point my library was huge and I needed a console with serious options. I was all for something to give me file storage that did not entail multiple memory cards and a spreadsheet to keep track of them all. I was also a little burnt the Dreamcast crashed and burned. Was not even close to ready for going back to PC. That platform was still a hot mess of endless Windows issues and strictly a rich man's gaming platform. I needed something familiar to the experience I got with my Dreamcast and at least offered online gaming. This machine delivered what so many of us were needing in consoles. To this day it has given me the best gaming experience of any console in my entire collection. Microsoft had something special with this package and did nothing to follow up. They claim the Xbox One X is that answer... we will see.

  4. Dreamcast ]> Hate me for putting this guy fourth, but it did not endure or last. Sega essentially shot themselves in the foot, by failing to get behind this thing properly within the strongest video game market on the planet... The United States. Many great memories were made on this machine and the reality of making a console competitive to the PC was clearly a reality. You even had a mouse and keyboard for the proper internet experience. Way better than WebTV. Sega did have plans to upgrade and go further, but once again failed to deliver. They pretty much gave up. All this aside, I did have absolutely amazing experiences unique to this console. They have not been equaled anywhere else.

No PS2 did not make my top 4. Its singular dominant aspect was an absolutely huge library and backwards compatibility. Features swiftly trumped by my selections. As for the portable systems, none of them had the one thing I needed the most for my on-the-go gaming environment... durability.

For me,

  1. Super Nintendo (I love the aesthetic of that era, and the music that came out of it is absolutely top-tier.)
2.Playstation 2 (Arguably played this one a lot more in my youth than I did SNES, probably nostalgia fueled but i remember this system having tons of fantastic games that still hold up)
  2. Xbox 360 (Got to this one while i was in high school, played this more than any other console under the sun. The memories with friends and all the late night matches of Halo 3 are the some of my favorite)

For me:

  1. PC - Began playing pc games in the 1980's and never stopped playing. The platform offers a huge library both new and old and there is always something to play. Both birthplace and playing ground for new types of games as well as a great backlog of classics. Evolves with the technology.
  2. PS4 - Didn't bother with PS1 and PS2, PS3 has just an awful interface, especially when dealing with digital games. PS4 is just a good gaming machine with really a lot of good games to be played that can be found nowhere else.
  3. X360 - Still up to this day a good machine that has evolved with time (digitals). Great controller, good game series
  4. Gamecube - the best electronic toy ever, indestrucatble

By far PC for me when I don't want to feel lazy. When I'm feeling lazy though, either Playstation (various versions) or Game Boy (various versions). Nothing beats lying in bed playing an rpg before passing out.

This is a really difficult question for me to answer since each platform has its pros and cons, but currently my favourite is the PS4. Until recently I was strictly a PC gamer, but after picking up this console I've suddenly come to spend most of my time on it! I love that it's easy to use, hooks up better to my 4K TV than my PC can, and the JRPG exclusives make it my main choice for gaming at this time : )

  1. NES
  2. SNES
  3. PlayStation

I am a huge RPG fan so both the SNES and PlayStation have a huge library of RPG's.

Probably the SNES. My first console was an NES but man, the stuff they put out on the SNES was stellar. Even when I was primarily PC gaming I'd still have my SNES hooked up. I liked a lot of PS1 and N64 titles too but I guess for second place I'd have to put the PS4. I hate the UI/UX and think it's loud, slow, and crappy but I've played it boat loads and the newer library really appeals to me I guess?

Interesting question.

What a tough question! I think for me, my favorite console has to be my trusty Gamecube. It doesnt exactly house my most favorite games, but there is something very charming about its wierdness (and the Wavebird!) that I cant ever get out of my head. I still have the one that I bought from a pawn shop back in the day.

So tough to pick a favorite but I would have to go with the original NES. Playing the games now is still fun because they come with so many memories. I have switched to an avid playstation player but I still go back and play some Zelda every now and then. I recently started a youtube channel and I'm playing through the old NES games to see how many I can beat. Fun time!

I only know 3 systems from experience.

Most favourite of all is the PC by far.

Beside that, I bought a PS2 to try out what consoles are like and kind of liked it and bought a PS3. Of those, the PS3 is more popular with me for it's better graphics and less slow and clumsy interface, but the PS 2 on the other hand has better rpg's (I like Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance and Lord of the Rings: The Third Age).

If gaming on a laptop is counted separate from the desktop and playing on a tablet counts on gaming as well, I'd make this top 5:

  1. Desktop PC
  2. Laptop
  3. PS3
  4. PS2
  5. Android tablet

  9. Sega Mark III
  10. PlayStation 2

Gosh, this is really hard, but going on gut instinct at the moment my top three favorites are:

  1. PlayStation 2
  2. PlayStation 4
  3. PC

Honorable mentions are Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo and the 3DS, but really I do love almost all platforms, for their strengths and their quirks.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm resurrecting it because I wanted to add my list of favorite consoles:

1) NES - This was my first console I received as kid for christmas. So much nostalgia for this system. So many memorable theme songs came from this era. I have very fond memories of my friends coming over and staying up all night completing games such as River City Ransom.

2)Genesis - Holy crap Golden Axe and Altered Beast look and play almost as good as the arcade. Aladdin anyone? So good. Plus games like flashback, out of this world, and zombies at my neighbors.

2)SNES - Final Fantasy III(also known as VI), Chrono Trigger, and Zelda Link to the Past were game changers for me. These games stirred emotions in me I never felt before playing a game.

3)Xbox - Halo Lan parties with college friends was the best

4)Xbox 360 - So many excellent titles. Xbox Live at the time couldn't be beat.

5) N64 - Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye

6)Dreamcast - Doesn't feel right having this system this low because it is such an amazing console. Makes me sad that sega still isn't doing consoles. So many amazing and original games for this system. I love all the risks and innovation that sega was doing at this time. Jet Grind Radio, Skies of Arcadia, Crazy Taxi, Resident Evil Code Veronica, Virtua Tennis, Shenmue, Dead or Alive II were some of my favorites.

6) Apple IIGS/PC - Space Quest series, King's Quest series, Bard's Tale

7)Xbox One X - I know there aren't many original titles this generation for microsoft but man do games look and play great on the X. Xbox controller is my favorite controller of all time

8) PS4 - Embarrassingly this is the first playstation system i have ever owned. I'm glad a lot of great playstation games got ported to the PS4 so I could try them. Absolutely loved the unchartered series. Horizon Zero Dawn might be my favorite game this generation. Resident Evil 7 in VR might be the scariest thing i've ever done.

9)Switch - Nintendo still putting a smile on my face 34 years later

10)Gamecube - Rogue Squadron II + III, Windwaker, Resident Evil Remake, Luigis Mansion

This ranking is really hard. The truth is I love all these systems so much. These are all the systems I own and every one of them has a special place in my heart - Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, SNES, SEGA CD, Sega Saturn, N64, Gamecube, XBOX, Wii, Xbox 360, Wii U, Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, Switch, Gameboy Advance, Atari Lynx, DS, 3DS.

  1. PC - Once I got into PC gaming in the mid-90's there was no turning back
  2. N64 - I loved this console mainly because it was the perfect console to play against friends with. My brother and I live states apart now but when one of us visits the other we always break out the N64 and have a few rounds of Mario Kart. It never gets old
  3. Switch - I got this as a gift and honestly it's easy accessibility has gotten me to fall in love with it. There are a lot of times where I don't have time to boot up my ps4 or go to my PC and but the switch is right there. I just grab it and play for a little while. Talking to other switch owners I feel like I'm in the minority in the sense I almost never play it docked.
