I love fighting games! Here's a list of my favorites! And i guess i'll rank them too! I'll try to keep it 1 per franchise, unless i feel like the games are so uniquely great in their own rights that they deserve more representation (looking at you Street Fighter...) Anyways, i haven't played every fighting game out there, but i'll include a list of some i know about and hope to try sometime! And if you have any recommendations for me, comment them down below!

Fighters I still need to check out:
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Powerstone (1+2)
Darkstalkers (entire series)
Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix
Soulcalibur (have played many games in this series before, but haven't spent enough time with any of them)
Bushido Blade
BlazBlue
Under Night In-Birth
Samurai Shodown/Spirits (entire series)
Guilty Gear (have played a couple here and there, but haven't deep dived into this series yet)
Most Tekkens
Def Jam: Fight for NY
X-Men Vs. Street Fighter

HONORABLE MENTIONS!
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2: Very sad that this series really hasn't grabbed me yet. I've probably played more of 3 than 2, but I gotta give this one a mention for how hype it feels to play and watch, even if I don't love this one as much others do

Garou: Mark of the Wolves: Badass game, just haven't played enough of it.

Street Fighter EX 3: I just got this game somewhat recently, and have been having a blast with it! beautiful music, fair character balancing, etc. Cracker Jack has to be a top 10 SF character for me too at this point. I just think it's too early for me to call the game a "favorite" persay, but if I feel that way with more play, it'll certainly get added to the list!

Last Blade: Have only played an hour or so of this, but i'm looking forward to more! Seems like another fighter with a lot of personality, and was really goofy when i played it. Again, too early to say, but I do like it a lot.

Persona 4 Arena: I've played a few hours of this, and haven't really mastered it (or grasped it) quite yet. I must admit though, it's a fantastic fighter, and i'd love to sink more time into it!

War Gods: This game is kind of bad to be honest, but I just love how hard it goes. Has some of the most bullshit combos that I've ever witnessed.

Aquapazza: This game is pretty bad, but I have a lot of fond memories as playing this with friends. It's not everyday you have an anime fighter where you can have the liberty of watching a girl with a mop and a clumsy girl who drops books as an attack duke it out.

Tekken Tag Tourney 1+2: I suck at most Tekken things, but i had a pretty good time with these. haven't played them nearly enough to give a solid opinion on them though. Have probably played the Tekken Bowling mini-game more than the base games actually...

Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO

Such an amazing experience overall. Found my love of SNK through this game, but also found a fantastic fighter, and honestly, my favorite 2D fighter. The music kicks ass, and the overall atmosphere feels as hype as I want my fighting games to be. The perfect mix of SNK and Capcom fighters! The first one is great too! I only got around to this game somewhat recently, but i love everything about it. Really hope to play it for years to come!

Super Smash Bros. Melee

Maybe one of my most played video games ever? I love all of the Smash games, but this one just takes the cake for sure. The music in the series has always been great, but i think it might have peaked here. I don't think any other game has succeeded this hard at orchestral music that's hype. It's just such a unique fighter that, even with it's quirks, stands the tests of time as an overall amazing game. Plus, this game probably has the most fun to watch competitive scene.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike

Was really hard to decide my favorite Street Fighter, but I think Third Strike has to be it. While it's tough as shit to master, it's so rewarding to play when you finally get some combos down. Plus it has some of the best sprite work I've ever seen, second only to some SNK masterpiece work (Mark of the Wolves is just too damn gorgeous!) It's a great time with friends since none of mine know how to play it, so we all just stumble through and pulling off accident supers together. Amazing soundtrack too, for an amazing game!

Street Fighter Alpha 3

A close second in regards to 3rd Strike, but still an absolute favorite to play. While the music is a bit hit or miss (and the hits REALLY hit), i do love the atmosphere of "young Street Fighter", ESPECIALLY that announcer (Go for it, Man!). This entry added some of my favorite characters to the series (I will stan Sakura until the day I die!) and is probably the most accessible Street Fighter next to 4. Every person i've shown this game to has picked it up rather quickly, and it's a great time with friends. The only negative I can really think of is that bullshit final boss in the story mode, but other than that, an amazing time!

Rival Schools

MAN, this game is such a hidden gem! Who knew that setting a fighting game around a school setting could get this insane! This is a game where every character is awesome, and the mechanics are goofier than one could imagine. A tag team fighter where your supers involve getting kissed by the school cheerleader to regain health, or watch as the gym teacher makes your opponent suffer through grueling push ups! A hilarious time overall. My favorite 3D fighter! (of course it's has to have Sakura in it!)

The King of Fighters '98: The Slugfest

While I'm still getting used to this one myself, it's undoubtedly a fantastic time, and the best KoF game i've played yet. Probably has the best cast lineup from all the entries i've played (only really missing Geese from the big names) and mechanically, feels extremely tight and solid. Not enough people talk about this franchise anymore too, so give it some love if you have the time!

Dead or Alive 6

So funny enough, i used to like 4 a decent bit, and hate 5. But as of late, I've found that this series has really struck a chord with me in my adulthood more than i thought it would. The soundtrack isn't "amazing" by any means, and these games do have their problems, but i just love how god damn goofy they are. I'm not the biggest fan of 3D fighters, but i do like when these kinds of games get stupid with their mechanics! While I like 5 a good bit, 6 really grabbed my attention more than any of the games from the series, and I'd like to keep it in this slot as appreciation for that.

Mortal Kombat (2011)

I'm really not a fan of this series, but i have to give a huge shout out to this game for getting me more into fighting games when I was younger. This entry is extremely tight, and probably the peak of the series in my opinion. It feels the most "fair" amidst the others in the series, Has a fantastic roster of characters too. I miss the days when seeing something like "Freddy Kreuger" getting added as DLC was mind-boggling and insane rather than commonplace. Anyways, this is a really solid game, and I have to give it credit for that. It's probably the only game in this franchise I return to as well.

Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax

Alright... hear me out...

I played this when i was peak into anime, and played the shit out of it with friends anytime we'd have fight nights. I have a lot of fond memories of beating up my friends as the girl from Toradora, and i really enjoy this really wacky crossover of characters, whose only connection is the Dengeki Bunko brand, even if this is a really basic fighter. Would LOVE to see another game in this series!

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

While this series isn't one I can really get into that much (and i'd much rather say i like 2 more than 3) I've played this game WAY more than most current day fighters. It's certainly not perfect, but this was always a staple of the fight nights that my friends just from how engaging this game is. Even if we sucked at it, it was a great time.
