This is a list of the top 10 games I've played in 2018 that I really enjoyed. As I haven't really played a whole lot of games that came out this year, most of the list consists of older games.

1

Dragalia Lost

This game was a pleasant surprise. Prior to Dragalia Lost, I had never really seriously gotten into a mobile game. When the game was announced, I thought it sounded like an interesting game, so I decided to pre-register.

When the game released, I instantly fell in love with the game. Having not seen any prior gameplay, I was really surprised by it's gameplay style. For a mobile game, it had a surprisingly decent story. The game quickly took over as my main game and continues to do so even now. The developers, Cygames, provide lots of new content every month to keep the game fresh. I don't see myself dropping this game for a good while.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

This is a game that I had always wanted to play, but never got the chance until this year. To date, Majora's Mask is easily my favorite Zelda game. The game's unique style really sets it apart from the others. The darker approach to the story was a great move. The mask feature was also great and is definitely the highlight of the game.

Stardew Valley

Although I haven't "beaten" the game, I have put a decent amount of time into this game and really enjoyed all of it. The farming in this game may seem simple at first glance, but it can eventually get pretty complex, yet still enjoyable. The interactions between all the characters and the events that come with them all create a really enjoyable and immersive experience.

Cave Story

After seeing Quote and Curly featured in Blade Strangers (a Nicalis-based fighting game) and hearing nothing but good things about the game, I decided to try it out. The game was a pleasant surprise and really pulled me in with it's immersive story and unique platforming gameplay. The multiple endings were a nice touch and really adds to the replay value.

Castle Crashers

After binge-playing through several arcade beat-em ups, my friends and I decided to take a more modern approach to the genre. We ended up choosing Castle Crashers out of my library of games and had a blast. The game is incredibly fun with friends and I honestly can't imagine it'd be too great of an experience playing alone. The game's difficulty was all over the place, some levels were tediously difficult while others were pretty easy. Regardless, if you've got some friends over and are looking for a great co-op game to play, this is the one.

Detective Pikachu

This is another game that I have yet to complete, but I really enjoyed the little that I did play. The story is incredibly intriguing and all the characters make for a great experience. The game isn't very difficult, though there are some parts that troubled me, yet were still enjoyable. The voice acting felt on point and the game would lose a large part of it's charm if it weren't in.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I don't own this game, but I have played a lot with friends. The game feels like a massive upgrade from Super Smash Bros. 4 (Which I despised for the most part). Movement feels a lot better and no one actually feels like a bad character. I'm really looking forward to picking up this game later.

Captain Commando

I had originally played this game on emulator with a friend and found it to be lots of fun. A couple friends and I later decided to check out a nearby arcade and they had Captain Commando. We ended up wasting a crap ton of quarters and eventually beat the game. This beat 'em up is easily one of the best Capcom beat 'em ups. The character designs are pretty cool. Gameplay is your basic run-of-the-mill beat 'em up though. Not that that's a bad thing.

Splatterhouse (1988)

This game was a bounty back in October. I found it to be incredibly difficult even after setting it on the easiest difficulty. Despite this, I still found the game to be very enjoyable. Once sliding is perfected, the game becomes a lot easier. A large part of the game is pretty much trial and error without using any guides. If you're looking for a challenging game to play that's also enjoyable, check out Splatterhouse.
