I still have my original NES copy of Punch-Out!! from when I was a kid and I played the heck out of it...despite never actually defeating Mr. Dream. It's one of my greatest gaming failures, though I'm resigned to the fact that I'll probably never take him down. I never got into Super Punch-Out!!, but when Punch-Out!! for the Wii was released, I was all over it. I had a blast with the game and yes, I managed to actually finish it!

Shortly after the Wii reboot was released, Nintendo also released a downloadable title called Doc Louis's Punch-Out!! exclusively for Club Nintendo members in North America...but only for a limited time. While it would be made available again a few years later, it's still somewhat of an elusive title if you didn't snag a copy back in the day and have it loaded on your Wii. It's a shame too because this is a wonderful complementary title to the full release.

There are only three fights in this game and they're all against Doc Louis, but hey, it was free, remember? It's sort of like a demo, but I found the last fight to be awfully difficult, so I think perhaps it was meant for those that have played the original (Wii) game....which I hadn't played in 14 or so years! Doc changes up his moves with each fight and it took me about an hour to finally knock him down for good.

There's not much else to be said on this one. If you enjoyed Punch-Out!! on the Wii, this is a great side dish to go along with the main course. I'm hopeful that one day Nintendo will revive the series and perhaps we'll get a re-release of the Wii game, plus Doc Louis's Punch-Out!! as a bonus...but I'm not holding my breath.
