I've never subscribed to PS+ personally. As a heavy physical-focused collector, digital libraries don't entice me nearly as much. More than that, though, I have enough games busying me already that I would never play ANY PS+ title :P.

With that said, this is a big challenge for Sony to keep their subscriber base high. From what I've heard, despite online being locked behind a paywall, their servers are still not stunning (an issue they had with PS3). So where does that sub money go? I have a feeling much of it goes to paying PS+ game devs/publishers small sums to lure them to be freebies. So, the price is increasing, and many are hoping this means "good" games come to PS+. But as far as non-Sony "good" games are concerned, they'll probably cost even more - fitting with the increased sub cost. So, online still remains as good/bad as it is now and there's not much room left for other enhancements.

Have they said anything to justify the increased cost thus far? I've only seen people reacting to the price hike but not read Sony's official word lol.

Yeah, I'm probably done with it. I'll probably do a random month here and there if I get some MP going with some friends....but I doubt I get it back for a long period of time.

It is a nice perk that they offer games as part of the SUB, but I have too many games to play as it is....so it doesn't really bother me too much to drop it because of that.

PS+ has nice discounts and i'm always interested in picking some stuff cheaply. And I'm a 99% digital guy so i'll keep my subscription around.

September's Games with Gold already announced.

Xbox One:

  • Earthlock: Festival of Magic (9/1 - 9/30)
  • Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China (9/16 - 10/15)

Xbox 360: (BC with Xbone)

  • Forza Horizon (9/1 - 9/15)
  • Mirror's Edge (9/16 - 9/30)

PS+ games not announced yet.

My take: Earthlock is a new game, seems to be a pretty good looking RPG. The Assassin's Creed game is one of the side scrolling ones, which I've heard mixed reviews of. On the 360, the Forza series is pretty well respected and so far, I've only played Forza Motorsports 4: Essentials Edition. Mirror's Edge is pretty old at this point, and it's been in at least one and maybe 2 bundles, but I've never found occasion to download it before now. I've heard mixed reviews of how well 1st person platforming works.

Moho, the only game to add is Earthlock, since it's new.

September PS+ Games have been announced. This is the first month under the new increased prices. All games available Tuesday, September 6th.

PS4:

  • Badland
  • Journey
  • Lords of the Fallen

PS3:

  • Badland
  • Datura
  • Journey
  • Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

PS Vita:

  • Amnesia Memories
  • Badland

My take: First off, lots of cross buy titles is always a good thing, but the Vita got relatively hosed. Again.

Lords of the Fallen is a decent Dark Souls-esque game, but was already in Xbox Games With Gold for Xbox One a few months ago. Journey is an interesting game, but I already had it. Need to finish it someday. Badland is apparently a tablet game port, but looks really nice for one. Prince of Persia and Amnesia are pretty well respected series, and at least it's not the same PoP game we got free on uPlay. Datura seems to be one of those "interactive story telling experiences" where your choices change the game.

Moho, the only one to add is Datura.

Datura, I should mention, is also apparently a very short playstation Move game.

Fortunately, it's either Playstation Move OR regular controller. I don't think PS+ subscribers would be too amused by a PS Move only game, given that PS Move really didn't succeed .

Once the Sports Champions Frisbee Golf frenzy settled down in my household, those Move controllers did nothing but gather dust. :P

I tried them out on MLB The Show and Killzone 3, but preferred regular controls for both.

October's Games With Gold announced:

Xbox One:

  • Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings (October 1st -31st)
  • The Escapists (October 16th - November 15th)

Xbox 360:

  • MX vs. ATV Reflex (October 1st - October 15th)
  • I Am Alive (October 16th-October 31st)

Fairly disappointing month for me as a 360 owner. MX vs. ATV Reflex is the only AAA title this month, and I've had it for years on Steam. I Am Alive was on PS Plus just a few months back. The Xbone games look interesting, but since I don't actually HAVE an Xbone, I'm out of luck there.

Today is also the last day to buy up any extensions for ps+ subscriptions before they jack up the price by $10 a year (or $20 if you're a poor Canuck like me)

I forgot to mention, looks like there's nothing to add to the database from the Xbox list.

I'm glad I was beaten to this last month, because outside of the PS4 titles, and knowing the name "From Dust", I've never heard of the rest of the entries.

I can't help but think that the Vita entry Actual Sunlight isn't just a riff on the Vita fanboys to get outside and get a life because the Vita is dead. :P

I thought I might track the MSRP of the offerings this month (counting any cross buy titles, of which there are currently none this month, as one game):

Games With Gold:
Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings: $19.99
The Escapists $19.99
MX vs. ATV Reflex: $29.99
I Am Alive: $14.99
TOTAL: $84.96 retail price

Playstation Plus:
Resident Evil: $19.99
Transformers: Devastation: $39.99
Mad Riders: $9.99
From Dust: $14.99
Code: Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~: $39.99
Actual Sunlight: $4.99
TOTAL: $129.94

Definite advantage for PS Plus in this department. If Code: Realize is anywhere worth that price, it may be the unsung hero this month. PS Vita has been badly needing some quality selections.

Code: Realize ~Whatever~ is another one of those Otome visual novels, so I think the level of excitement for that title will be near rock bottom amongst mainstream gamers.

Wow, that's a pretty hefty price tag for a visual novel on a system with a screen not really conducive to reading as much as a TV or computer monitor might be.

Xbox Live Games with Gold for November:

Xbox One:

  • Super Dungeon Bros (11/01 - 11/30)
  • Murdered: Soul Suspect (11/16 - 12/15)

Xbox 360: (Backwards compatible with Xbox One)

  • The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition (11/01 - 11/15)
  • Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon (11/16 - 11/30)

Super Dungeon Bros is the only one I don't have, but looks cool if you like 4 person brawlers.

Murdered: Soul Suspect has already been in at least 2 Humble Bundles on Steam.

Secret of Monkey Island is a classic, and if you don't have it already, it's a must play.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was in Playstation Plus last December.

I enjoyed Murdered: Soul Suspect.

I've tried to get into Far Cry games but they just don't give me much interest.

Murdered Soul Suspect was one of those games that just needed a little more polish and it could have been amazing. As it was, I still really enjoyed it.
