Love the site. So many great features. I entered 3 games in my collection as a sample to start exploring. Tried to open the export but no luck. Suggestions?

To be sure I'm doing it correctly - I'm in Collection with my 3 games showing. Click on Export to Excel. it creates a 1KB file called Collection.xls in my Download folder. But when I try to open in Excel 2016, nothing.

If I click on the file and open from there, it opens Excel with no spreadsheet showing.
If I go to Excel and browse to the file, it sees the file but doesn't really do anything.

If there were an option to export in CSV, at least I could try the file on something else.

I"m running Windows 10, Office 2016. Use Excel daily/hourly and have no problems with other files.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I thought to also try with Google Sheets, which can read Excel files. First I tested with other files. Fine, Google Sheets opens other Excel file as expected. Then tried to open Collection file.

It does show the data - one continuous text string in cell A1. I believe it's HTML format. Lots of tags with brackets.

This forum tool won't let me include the text. (Get the "evil banana" so let me try without. )

It appears to be extracting data, but perhaps not saving in a correctly formatted file.

Hi jxb1000, I had the same issue with the collection export file as well. It was working in the past, but something must have gotten mucked up. The site owner hopes to resolve this issue soon, though has been busy as of late!

So we will have to wait a bit to grab that Excel file ourselves. In the meantime I would suggest filling out your collection and, if there are any games missing from the database, reporting them. Also feel free to stop by the introduction thread and say hi! :) http://www.completionator.com/Forum/PostList/1?page=1

I haven't had a chance to dig into this issue yet, but I did notice it seems to work for me in Chrome, but not in Firefox.

For me when I use Chrome it gives the same issue as jxb1000 shared. I actually never thought to try Firefox, or other browsers. :P

@Crusher Talos - What browser are you using? I just tried in both Chrome and Firefox and I'm able to export my collection.
