I recently found out about Spectacular Sparky and thought surely there are other fans of '90s style run and gun / platformer games out there, so let's have a giveaway!

Since this one has sort of flown under the radar (at least mine), the entry for this giveaway is to simply post one (or more) indie games in this thread that have been released in recent years that you feel didn't quite reach the exposure they should have. Maybe we can spread some awareness around our tiny corner of the internet The winner will have their choice of either a Steam or GOG key for Spectacular Sparky. Oh and I also added a bounty!

I'll randomly select a winner from those that participate. You have until 11:59 PM EST on 3/4/22 to enter!

I have two!

Yoku's Island Express
It's a Metroidvania/Pinball hybrid that is a huge amount of fun. Don't see it brought up with the likes of Hollow Knight, Stardew Valley when I believe it absolutely should be.

Technically an upcoming Indie release...
Enchain: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1396870/ENCHAIN/
There is a playable demo, it gives off classic Doom vibes but with a grapple hook. Definitely an Indie to look out for.

Game looks deceptive at first. Seems overly simplistic and easy, but jumping ahead in that video I can see it has some genuinely challenging stuff going on at points. Interesting game!

I legitimately have no idea how well received or popular this game is/was, but Project Warlock is like a fun homage blend of Duke 3D and Heretic with a pretty great soundtrack.

I won't enter the contest, but I wanted to participate in the topic!

Necesse (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1169040/Necesse/) is pretty underrated IMO and I'm surprised it didn't get as much recognition. It's like a top-down Terraria-ish with a settlement system and a pretty big focus on managing your settlement and combat. Dev's been pretty active on it since its release.
Also gonna +1 Avium's comment on Yoku's Island Express.

The mighty D20 has been rolled and @dhobo is the winner! I'll send you a copy through Steam...hope you enjoy it! Your assessment is pretty much spot-on in that it starts out rather easy, but does get a bit more difficult later on. I will say that the checkpoint system is very generous, so even though some of the sections took a few tries to get through, I was never really frustrated. I know not everyone is a fan of checkpoints (especially ones that are as frequent as those in this game), but I LOVE them! It helps me actually finish games I would otherwise abandon

Regarding the games mentioned...

  • Yoku's Island Express - I thought this one looked really fun, but I'm sooo baaaad at pinball, so it's been sitting on my shelf for years. Maybe one day...
  • Project Warlock - Wow, I completely forgot about this game. I bought it a long time ago and never even installed it. I need to change that.
  • Necesse - I hadn't heard of this one, but it's right up my alley. Wishlisted!

Oh cool, thanks a lot!

A bit surprised at how little activity there was on this giveaway though.
