What is the difference? You complete a game, i think, when you do your first playthrough. Or is it when you retire the game? That would be strange of course. So just wondering... |

The idea here is that a completion is the end result of a playthrough, or basically the amount of time it took a player to complete a game, as well as the date they completed it on. A playthrough is something that can be used while playing a game to track how long they spend playing it. Some games track your time (like a lot of RPGs), and certain platforms like Steam and the Wii / Wii U track the time you spend playing a game, but other systems / games don't have anything built in. So that's where the playthrough functionality comes in, you can enter it yourself and track it manually. All that being said, there's a key integration point that's missing from these two features that I really need to add. My plan is for there to be a "Complete" button that you could click on for a playthrough that would total up your time and enter a completion for you. The playthrough would then be "archived" since you've completed it, though you would still have access to view the data and everything. Additionally, I would like to enhance the playthrough functionality some more by adding an actual timer (so you can hit start / stop to track your time, rather than entering it after the fact) and also provide a notes field so you can enter notes about your playthrough. So basically the playthrough functionality is for when you want manual control around how long a game takes you to play, and a completion is the end result (i.e. the total time it took you to play a game). They are not and have no plans to become dependent on one another, but as I mentioned above, I do plan to provide some integration between them. Hope that helps! |

I think it might be a good idea to have a "FAQ" section. I could see some confusion with some of the stuff here, but something that new people could reference would probably help. Also, I understand that people will probably use sections of this site differently, but I think the idea of the FAQ would be more of a "This was my intention with this functionality, but understand that these are only guidelines"

I'll also add that it is possible that you can have multiple completions for a game. You could complete the game once just as a normal playthrough. Then you could do it again as a speed run. The idea is that each time you complete the game, you can enter a completion for that. |
