When people track a Steam collection, the inventory side can create two very different numbers.

The Steam Community Market price shows the value inside Steam. It is not the same as withdrawable cash: sale fees, item liquidity, and the fact that sale proceeds stay in Steam all matter.

I help run SteamVaults, so I am asking from a disclosed project perspective. We are trying to explain this distinction clearly instead of presenting one inflated "collection value" number.

For a collection tracker, which approach would you find most useful?

  • Ignore inventory value entirely
  • Show the current Steam Market price
  • Keep Market value and estimated cash value as separate fields
  • Track only items that are actually marketable or tradable

I am curious whether inventory value belongs in a game-collection tracker at all, or whether it should stay separate from completion data.
