Favorite mascot horror game
Total Votes: 0

Here's my personal opinion about every mascot horror franchise. A genre that barely existed before the 2010's except maybe a few silent hill games and Illbleed on dreamcast.

Five Nights At freddy's : My favorite video game license although i do feel that the games' quality is unequal between periods. Fnaf 1 to 3 and the two help wanted games represented the genius of Scott Cawthon. Fnaf 4 has an awesome ambiance but is way too difficult and stressful. Fnaf sister location is very good but has an unfair difficulty and for Into the pit or even FFPS, don't mention me those ones.

Bendy and the ink machine : Only watched let's play although i'm interested into understanding better why this game used to be considered as a fnaf killer.

Poppy playtime : heavily criticized or denied by some purists but it doesn't deserve its reputation. I personally enjoy the universe and the grab pack based gameplay. Also, the game greatly managed to develop its lore and become more mature as far as you progress.

Hello Neighbor : catastrophic, buggy and unplayable. The pre alpha was promising and offered a geniuenely eerie ambiance before the developers began to mess with their game in order to make it youtube baitable. Now it has become legendary for its non sense riddles, its many bugs and i could go on and on... Too bad for a game who had a huge potential.

Dark Deception : Excellent, quite mature and very stressful. Combining Silent Hill and Pac man sounds strange at first, but it actually manages to offer a quite innovative gameplay. It is also the most optimized game in terms of graphics and has the more mature and well written story among all titles.

Let me know your opinions within this forum.

I'm not a big fan of mascot horror in general, not even because its inherently bad, just overdone at this point. That being said, gameplay-wise Dark Deception I think is leagues above many others. If only the updates for new chapters weren't so woefully inconsistent.

I think Poppy Playtime is actually perfectly fine, for what I've played. It tries to do interesting things with its designs, and there's a lot of cool production value in the little skits that open each game. But Chapter 4 was a bit of a mess, with 5 managing to pick up a bit of the slack after the fact. My understanding is that what is likely the final game in the main series at least is coming out next year, so I'll probably play it when it comes out.

I'm surprised you don't appreciate a lot five nights at freddy's since it was praised for the thrills and goosebumps it would give to players. Many people i know who aren't fans of horror content generally love fnaf for its cryptic lore and its memorable chara designs.
