Description

Admittedly I've been lacking when it comes to logging games this year, but thankfully I've played enough to be able to create this list.

Half-Life: Alyx

As much as I love Clair Obscur, Half Life Alyx is such a huge triumph in so many ways. There are a few issues, but none of those undermine just how incredible the whole game is. VR games (and honestly gaming as a whole) are still trying to get close to the level of interactivity this game has, and that's not even mentioning the great story, the epic set pieces, the fun combat, and the spectacular level design of each chapter. All aspects that come together to create an experience truly like no other, further cementing Valve's status as one of the best game developers to ever do it (at least whenever they feel like making games).

Ready or Not

Playing through this game with friends is a very fun and very tense experience. I haven't had time to dedicate a playthrough through the campaign on my own, but I've been having a good time going through the missions with my friends whenever we have the chance. I've honestly missed tactical, mission based shooters like this, especially since the Tom Clancy franchise seems to focus on open world games and multiplayer shooters these days. Definitely a game I want to dedicate more time to next year.

Metro Awakening VR

A fantastic VR game that tells an incredible story and brings a huge level of interactivity to the genre. A lot of people have compared this to Half Life Alyx and while I wouldn't say it's that good, it comes close. If you have a PSVR2, or a PC VR setup, please play this game.

4

DOOM: The Dark Ages

At this point, I am convinced that Id software can do no wrong, because this was awesome. While I wouldn't put it above the last two DOOM games, this game still rocks in so many ways. Personally, I hope that if Quake ever comes back, it plays like this game.

Silent Hill f

After a great remake of one of the best games in the series, Silent Hill returns with a completely new entry in the franchise. I've really enjoyed playing through this, but I feel like I need to put some more time into it before I can form a more concrete opinion. For now, I'm good with ranking it here.

6

Hitman: World of Assassination

I've still got to finish the 2nd and 3rd game campaign, but I had a lot of fun with the 1st game's campaign. I played through the whole thing in PSVR2, and it was a very enjoyable experience. It was a fantastic idea to implement a VR mode, and it really makes the whole experience so immersive (especially with how open and free the mission design of Hitman is).

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Yeah, yeah, whose surprised? What can I say, this game is amazing and everybody that says as much is 100% correct. I love seeing that truly original, creative projects like this can still succeed in the modern gaming landscape, because this game really is something special. And I don't usually like turn based games, that's how good this is!

8

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Despite some reservations I had when it was announced, this remake actually ended up exceeding my expectations. They could have easily just remade the base game, but they went ahead and included so many extras, and a fairly decent multiplayer mode that's fun for quick matches. It really feels like a remake made by people who have a lot of respect and appreciation for the original MGS 3.

Batman: Arkham Asylum - Game of the Year Edition

All I wanted to do was test out Lossless Scaling, and then I ended up finishing the whole thing in a few days. One of the best comic book games ever made, and it still holds up even with the other Arkham games that came afterwards.

Sonic Unleashed

Played through using the Unleashed Recompiled project, Sonic fans are truly incredible (when they want to be). It also goes to show just how good Unleashed has always been.
